Used a hammer and chisel again to destroy the prestine surface of the wood. It transitions from an untouched surface to a really rough and uneven surface. Since the effect was not obvious enough to me, a heat gun was used to lightly burn the top. The higher points were blackened and really helped to highlight the topography of the tile. Since heat was used to create a burnt effect I decided to incorporate it as part of the transition as well. With the roughest end being the most burnt and the smooth end left in its orginal state.
